Dr. Joanna J. Hooper

Co-Medical Director, Family Medical Physician
Board Certified, Family Practitioner

This community deserves a medical home with a spectrum of eastern and western approaches to care, and coordination and communication between disciplines, we think this is the best way to get to the root of illness and treat the whole person. - Dr. Joanna J. Hooper

Dr. Joanna grew up in southwest, mostly New Mexico and Colorado. She attended Grinnell College in Iowa, and majored in chemistry.  After college, she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, Africa teaching chemistry, biology, and physics, and engaged in several projects helping Women In Development.

A graduate of University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine, Dr. Hooper completed her family medicine residency at Providence Milwaukie in Oregon.

She returned to New Mexico, as an Assistant Professor for the Family and Community Medicine Department at the UNM School of Medicine for four years where she attended deliveries on the Maternal Child Health Service, precepted students and residents in the Newborn Nursery, and worked at the SE Heights Clinic, Milagro Clinic, and Center for Reproductive Health.

In 2014, she and her husband decided to move to the beautiful town of Taos where she found work at El Centro Family Health.

Dr. Joanna has an interest in international medicine and public health, and has worked on many international projects throughout Latin America and speaks Spanish fluently.

Dr. Joanna’s interest in integrative medicine was heightened by her personal health challenges for which naturopathic, functional, and oriental medicine were extremely helpful for her own healing and wanted to be able to increase access for such services to her patients.
