Dr. Dougherty completed his medical degree with honors at the prestigious Keck USC School of Medicine. Following his graduation from Keck USC, he underwent rigorous training in general and plastic surgery through residency programs at the University of Southern California (USC). During his time at USC, Dr. Dougherty honed his skills and developed a strong foundation in surgical techniques and patient care.

After his residency, Dr. Dougherty joined the faculty at USC as a respected surgeon and educator. He has been actively involved in teaching surgical residents and medical students, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of medical professionals. Dr. Dougherty enjoyed academic affiliations and faculty appointments at U. Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, University of Arkansas and the University of Kansas prior to his move to New Mexico. Dr. Dougherty's commitment to education and research has been evident throughout his career, with numerous publications in peer- reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.

Dr. Dougherty is a board-certified in both general surgery and plastic surgeon and is an active Fellow of the American. College of Surgeons (FACS), which is a testament to his commitment to excellence and dedication to his craft. He has spent years honing his skills and expertise in surgical arts, and his patients benefit from his knowledge and experience.

In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Dougherty is known for his compassionate bedside manner and his ability to put his patients at ease. Dr. Dougherty's areas of expertise include Surgical Oncology, (breast cancer, colon cancer and skin cancers), General Surgery (major trauma, hernias, gallstones, breast disease, and appendicitis), complex Reconstructive Surgery (Breast cancer, facial trauma, wounds, radiation injury and limb salvage), and Cosmetic Surgery (facial rejuvenation, body contouring, breast surgery, and non-surgical cosmetic treatments). He stays up-to-date on the latest advancements in plastic surgery and uses state-of-the-art techniques and technologies to achieve optimal results for his patients.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Dougherty is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and has served as a lecturer and presenter at various plastic surgery conferences and events.
